Rapper Lil TJay was one of two men who were shot Wednesday morning in New Jersey, just weeks after declaring it was going to be "a good summer."

The Bronx-born rapper was hit several times in The Promenade in Edgewater. The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said police responded to reports of shootings at the location after midnight.

When they arrive, they discover 21-year-old Lil TJ, whose real name is Tion Marriott, who has been shot several times.

Officials said 22-year-old Antoine Boyd was also found with a bullet wound. Both were taken to the district hospital for treatment. Officials did not release their terms,

although TMZ reported that Lil TJ had emergency surgery. Authorities said the shooting took place when Mohamed Konate tried to rob Lil TJ, Boyd, and a third man,

who was with rapper Jeffrey Valdez, 24-year-old.  Valdez and Boyd both had an illegal weapon at the time.

Konate was arrested later on Wednesday by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the New York Police Department. Officials said his extradition to New Jersey is currently pending.

He has been charged with three counts of attempt to murder, three counts of armed robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and aggravated assault of the fourth degree.

Both Boyd and Valdez were charged with illegal possession of a weapon and are being held at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, awaiting a preliminary hearing.
